Radiofrequency (RF) treatment involves delivering an electric current at very high frequencies such as those used in the broadcasting band (hence radiofrequency or RF) to target tissues through electrodes in contact with the skin. Living tissue conducts electricity but offers resistance to the current. When an electric current meets resistance it generates heat, so RF energy safely generates a controlled and local electrothermal effect in tissue.
InfiniTM System uses Microneedle Fractional RF (MFR)with 200 μm micro-needles, double coated with gold and silicon that penetrate to the preset skin layers and deliver the RF energy, thereby inducing deep dermis collagen and elastin synthesis and remodeling.
RF Microneedling is one the most effective procedures available in the market for skin rejuvenation and tightening and treatment of all scars including acne scars. It is also a very effective treatment for axillary hyperhidrosis (Excessive sweating from the underarms). Moreover it can successfully be used for reducing pockets of fat such as submental fat (double chin).
As there is pain associated with this treatment the skin will be anesthetized first using a topical anesthetic cream for one hour then further injected with local anesthetic to make the treatment fairly comfortable. There is minimal downtime with this procedure. The skin looks somewhat red and swollen for 1-2 days but make up can be applied from the 2nd day if needed. Typically by the 4th day there is minimal redness remaining on the skin.
For skin rejuvenation typically 3 treatments separated by 2-4 weeks are recommended for the first year followed by at least one treatment per year. The results of the treatment last for up to 18 months.
For Hyperhidrosis usually two treatments separated by 4 weeks are sufficient.
STRICT CONTRAINDICATIONS:
•Acute inflammatory skin disease (other than acute inflammatory acne)
•Hemorrhagic disease
•Uncontrolled diabetic complications or other severe medical complications
•Tendency for keloid formation
•Patient with a cardiac pacemaker
•Patient with an implanted defibrillator
•Pregnancy
•Uncontrolled hypertension
•Potentially precancerous or otherwise abnormal birthmarks (e.g., moles)
RELATIVE CONTRAINDICATIONS:
•Metal pins, implants or prosthetic joints in the body (may feel a tingling sensation around these areas)
•Allergy to steroid drugs (when steroids are used as part of the post-care regimen)
•Metal allergy (MFR needles are gold-coated)
PATIENT CARE BEFORE TREATMENT:
- Do not use exfoliants, topical antibiotics or acids 5-7 days prior to your treatment.
- Do not take anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil for at least 3 days prior to your microneedling session.
PATIENT CARE POST TREATMENT:
•Cooling with a sterile ice pack is allowed. Mild crusting might be noted following treatment. Crusts will disappear naturally in 1-2 days. Do not pick at the crusts.
•Apply the post-treatment moisturizer per physician recommendation.
•Avoid vigorous activity, excess heat, or sun exposure for at least one week.
•Avoid harsh products or alcohol based toners for two weeks.
•Apply a UVA/UVB sunblock with an SPF of 30+ according to product manufacturer’s instructions. Until the skin returns to normal, when outdoors always use an umbrella, hat or other available protection against sunlight, as UV from the sun, even on a cloudy day, may cause hyperpigmentation on the treated area.
•Treatment interval is a minimum of 2 weeks; four to six weeks is typical.
•Two to four treatments are recommended as appropriate for the patient.
